Project PinBot
Launch of Project PinBot: Inspection and removal of salmon bones with high-tech robotics We are proud to announce the launch of Project PinBot, an innovative collaborative project between VCU Robotics, Noordzee International, and Wageningen University & Research (WUR). Within this project, we are developing a high-tech robotic system that, using X-ray technology and a specially developed gripper, can detect and remove even the smallest fish bones (pinbones) in salmon fillets. With this, we are taking a significant step towards further automation, higher product quality, and innovation within the fish processing industry.
Higher product quality and food safety
Reduced physical strain on employees
Reduction of dependence on scarce labor
More efficient production processes with less product loss
Strengthening the innovative capacity of the Dutch fish processing sector
In addition to technological development, the Project partners actively engage in knowledge sharing with companies and organizations in the sector, so that the acquired knowledge becomes widely available and contributes to future-proof fish processing in the Netherlands. We look forward to collaborating on this innovative solution in the coming period and sharing the results with the sector.
Project PinBot is made possible in part by a contribution from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Kansen voor West programme.
